The first Edward Turner designed Speed Twin was produced to critical acclaim in 1937. Most bikes at the time were singles and the introduction of a mass production twin shook up the market. The bike was so successful that it sold in various guises right up until 1966.
Our bike is a 1965 version with the unit 500cc engine and a bikini fairing. It is a highly original bike, the fairing and mudguards are the original metal type, the fuel tank looks to be in its original paint, and the nacelle looks to be original and is in excellent order.
We have recently overhauled the bike following long period where it has not been used much, but has been well-stored. We have records that show that from 1983 onwards the bike was owned by David Dundas, the seventies popstar who had a hit with ‘Jeans On’. The bike currently has around 8900 miles showing on the speedometer and we have an MOT from 1994 showing 8568, which indicates minimal miles travelled for the last twenty years or so.
The bike is generally in very good order, and runs and rides as it should. Its originality and apparently low mileage make it a very attractive proposition. It is MOTed and ready to ride away.
A wonderful opportunity to acquire an unusually original bike.
