The Norton Commando needs little introduction; quite simply it is one of the best known and best-loved of all British bikes.
From 1969 to 1977 these bikes were manufactured in a number of different guises, Fastbacks, Roadsters, Interstates and more. The bike that we have managed to acquire is one of the last in the line, a 1975 Interstate 850.
As is very common on these bikes, the limited electric start that would have been fitted has been removed. The bike has also been converted to one on one carburettor to aid simplicity of maintenance and economy of fuel. We have copies of MOTs going back to 1987. The mileage shown on the MOT for 1987 is 36,913 and the mileage now is just over 43,000, so the bike undertook most of its miles in the first ten years of its life. However, despite the fact that it has only done 6,000 miles in the last twenty-five years or so, it has been MOTed and ridden in the majority of those years.
We have checked the bike over and ridden it, and we have fitted a new front wheel rim and spokes. Otherwise the bike is clean, in very good condition, starts easily and is ready to ride away.
