1983 Ducati 900 S2
As A28 Classics has now ceased trading due to retirement, we have decided to sell off some of the motorbikes that we have kept in our own personal collection.
‘Put into perspective as the end of the line for the 864cc bevel-drive engine, the 900 S2 deserves its place in history.’ Ian Falloon from Ducati Bevel Twins
The engine for the Ducati 900 S2 was a continuation of the engines used for both the Super Sport and Darmah. The model was launched in 1982 with both kick start and electric start versions available. The bike we have for sale is an electric start version. The engine was updated for this new model, and the frame and body work were completely new. In our view the overall look is an eighties version of the 900SS, as the more angular, boxy style of the eighties replaces the more rounded iconic style of the seventies original.
As you would expect from a Ducati of this era, the model was kitted out with the best that Italian suppliers could offer at the time; Conti exhaust, Marzocchi suspension, Brembo brakes, Dell'Orto carbs. Many parts were shared with the Mike Hailwood replica, although the S2 was the rarer bike with 1,236 900 versions sold, as opposed to just over 6,000 900 Hailwood replicas.
We acquired our bike in 2016 from Anthony Godin, who imported it to the UK from Denmark where we understand that it had formed part of a static collection. It is in excellent original condition and presents extremely well cosmetically. The speedo shows 64,311 kms; when it was imported from Denmark it showed 62,799.
We have undertaken various works to ensure that the bike runs as it should, and we have detailed invoices on file from specialists Windmill Garage. The exhaust guides for each cylinder head were renewed as well as other work to the clutch, brakes carbs, fuel tank (treated with Flowliner) and suspension.
Overall, we believe that this bike represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a bevel Ducati at a relatively low price. The bike comes with a V5, two sets of keys, copy invoices and an original brochure for the model.
