It is generally acknowledged amongst fans of the Defender, that the 50th anniversary edition was the best to have been produced so far. Ours is a low mileage example in very good condition with a fully stamped service book.
The 50th anniversary Defender was produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Land Rover in 1998. 385 vehicles only were produced for the UK market and each carries its own unique number on a plate attached to the back of the vehicle. They are all automatic transmission matched with a Rover 4.0 litre V8 engine giving an exceptional combination of power and smooth ride. They are all painted in Atlantis Blue, a metallic paint that looks blue or green depending on the light. They also have air-conditioning and a roll-over protection cage fitted as standard.
Our 50th is no. 179. We have owned it for the last four years or so as our own car. According to the service book it was delivered new to Strattons in London on 15th September 1998. It is showing a very low mileage for its age, currently around 46,500, and the mileage is backed up by MOTs and a stamped service book. There are fourteen service stamps, carried out in the main by Land Rover dealers or specialists. The last service was at 46,346 miles. There are also other bills on file for any necessary maintenance work. Other than servicing, we have had a replacement head gasket installed with the work undertaken by Land Rover, Ashford. A detailed invoice is on file.
The overall condition of no.179 is very good. The original paint is largely in great shape, with some minor pitting on the rear door and the inside of the fuel filler area. The original carpets, seats and interior are also in very good shape. The car runs extremely well, as would be expected given the attention that has been given to it over the years. Five previous owners are showing on the V5.
We believe this is a great opportunity to acquire a rare, collectible car, in very good original condition with original service book, manual and spare key. Note the car is currently fitted with a sports steering wheel but we have the original.
