We are very happy to announce for sale a stunning, mint restored 1976 Suzuki RE5A, matching numbers no. 14883.
According to the Owner’s Manual ‘as an owner of a Suzuki RE5, you are about to experience a new kind of motorcycle enjoyment, thrill and utility that only the RE5 can provide with its NSU-Wankel type water-cooled rotary engine.’
As any lover of classic motorcycles will know, the number of production models built with rotary engines can be counted on less than the fingers of one hand with the Hercules, Suzuki’s RE5 and the later Norton being the only examples produced in any kind of numbers. The RE5 was produced from 1974 and 1975 with the RE5A being the model for 1976. All RE5As were black.
Although these bikes did not sell in huge numbers at the time, they have now become recognised as an important investigation of the mechanics of motorcycles, and they are highly prized by collectors.
Our bike was acquired by the previous owner in 1995 in the USA and was imported into the UK in 1996 and registered on a P plate. It is in superb restored condition, having been the subject of a ground up restoration in the early 2000s. We have invoices for the restoration work which was carried out by Rising Sun Restorations in Yorkshire, as well as photographs on floppy discs.
Since then the bike has been stored in a temperature controlled environment, and used from time to time to make sure that everything is running as it should. It has just been MOTed and is ready to ride away subject only to road tax. The bike will be supplied with both its original owner’s manual and service manual, as well as a fully documented history. We are convinced that this example is likely to be the best available for current sale.
